This past weekend, Ed and I had the privilege of attending the 40th annual Annie Awards as we were nominated for Best Directing for an Animated Television Production. The Dick Figures episode in question, "Kung Fu Winners", was up against Nickelodeon's Spongebob and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Disney's Jake and the Never Land Pirates, Turner's The Amazing World of Gumball, and DreamWorks Animation's Dragons: Riders of Berk. To be honest, we're not quite sure how an episode from a web-series that was created in two weeks and cost less than $5,000 to produce was able to stand toe-to-toe against the studios.
Except that it was an awesome episode.
Regardless, we were truly honored to be considered amongst such talent and enjoyed the evening of camaraderie between the best in the animation community. Ed and I hope to return next year with Dick Figures The Movie.
Now that animation is in full swing, scenes revised in boards, music being composed, final sound put into place, and editorial beginning on the "Making Of Dick Figures The Movie"... late nights have begun. This was not the first and certainly will not be the last.
