Welcome to Reyes

Deathhead_03_sm Today, Death Head Issue #3 is on store shelves. I can't believe the Burton family's story is already halfway done! It feels like we're just getting started. Hopefully, we are.

Currently, Nick and I are writing 6 issues for Dark Horse, but we're hoping to do a second book that expands upon the mystery. There's so much more to say about plague doctors! As this was my first foray into comics, I didn't feel like I truly had control over my words and had formed a solid working style with the team until this issue. Readers will notice a big boost to pace and reveals as we really step on the gas at the end. Not only is the artwork and lettering perfect, this is my favorite cover of the series. It reminds me of an old Drew Struzan poster, though it was painted by the endlessly talented EM Gist.

The town of Reyes, featured prominently in Issue 3, is loosely based on Point Reyes, a small coastal town in Northern California. It's mostly known for its oysters and cheese, but further west there's also an historic lighthouse. Due to its position way way way out on the west coast, this lighthouse is one of the coldest and windiest locations in the United States. There are stories of people being blown off the cliffs due to the high-velocity gales and fog so thick you can't see your hand in front of your face.

A perfect location for a horror story, right? Let me know what you think by dropping a comment below or on Twitter!
